ST’s New Ultra-Low-Power, High-Temp 32-bit ARM Cotex M0+ Microcontrollers

STMicroelectronics continues to extend its wildly-successful STM32 family with a new series of parts that will significantly extend battery life in consumer, health, and industrial applications.

The new STM32L0 ultra-low-power series sets a new standard for low power consumption microcontrollers.  The parts feature a 32MHz ARM Cortex(TM) M0+ processor core, a 12-bit Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) and a USB FS 2.0 crystal-less operation and a wide -40° to 125°C temperature range.

The new devices are fabricated in ST’s proprietary CMOS technology that allows for record low power consumption at elevated temperatures making the STM32L0 series ideal for industrial sensor applications.

ST’s New Nanopower Op-Amps

STMicroelectronics’ new TSU10X nanopower op-amps, provide ultra-low power consumption and due it over their full operating temperature range. This allows power optimization for battery-operated designs wherever quiescent current is the major concern.

The TSU101, TSU102 and TSU104 are single, dual and quad configurations that draw less current per op-amp than the typical self-discharge current of a lithium-ion battery.

These devices are available in affordable SC70, SOT23-5, DFN8 2×2, MiniSO8, QFN16 3×3 or TSSOP14 packages.

ST has introduced the world’s first 650V automotive-grade MOSFETs in TO-247 package.

The STW78N65M5 and STW62N65M5 are the industry’s first 650V AEC-Q101 automotive-qualified MOSFETs offered in a  TO-247 package.

The compact TO-247 package enhances system energy efficiency and power density with an extremely low on-resistance (RDS(ON)).

This is all made possible by ST’s industry-leading ST’s MDmesh™ V super-junction technology. This allows devices with high-voltage but very low RDS(ON) in smaller package sizes. In addition, gate charge (Qg) and input capacitance are  low as well. This results in high switching performance and efficiency.

STMicroelectronics, the world’s leading MEMS manufacturer, has introduced a new, patented technology that isolates the pressure-sensing element within an ultra-small form factor, fully-molded package.
By isolating the pressure-sensing MEMS element in a fully molded package, ST is able to eliminate the risk of corrosion, damage during assembly, impacts due to soldering processes. This results in a much more robust packaging solution.

Worldwide Semiconductor Revenue – 2013 May

Sales in May up 4.6 percent globally, 5.6 percent in the Americas compared to April

The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) announced worldwide semiconductors sales increased of 4.6 percent in May from the previous month. This is the largest monthly increase since March 2010.

“May was an unambiguously strong month for the global semiconductor industry, with growth across all regions and particularly encouraging increases in the Americas and Asia Pacific,” said Brian Toohey, president and CEO, Semiconductor Industry Association. “Sales have remained ahead of last year’s pace throughout 2013, indicating the increasing resiliency of the market.”
